The Lorem ipsum text is derived from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. The first line, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet," comes from a line in section 1.10.32. The standard passage used since the 1500s is reproduced below:

This text has been the industry's standard dummy text since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.
