Tips for Image Colorization
• Works best with images that have good contrast
• Monotone creates a single-color effect (like sepia or cyanotype)
• Duotone maps one color to shadows and another to highlights
• Use "Preserve Shadows/Highlights" to maintain details in dark/bright areas
• Lower intensity blends more of the original grayscale image
• Images are processed directly in your browser - nothing is uploaded to servers
Tool Features
Monochromatic Colorization
Apply a single color to your image, creating a stylish monotone effect similar to sepia or cyanotype photographs. Control the intensity of the effect and preserve details in shadows and highlights.
Duotone Effects
Map two different colors to the shadows and highlights of your image for a dynamic duotone effect. Create high-contrast, eye-catching images perfect for posters, headers, and promotional materials.
How It Works
Color Mapping
- Grayscale Conversion: First, the luminance values of each pixel are calculated
- Color Mapping: In monotone mode, the luminance is blended with a single color
- Duotone Processing: In duotone mode, shadows are mapped to one color and highlights to another
Technical Process
The colorization process involves these steps:
1. Convert each pixel to grayscale using luminance formula
2. Map luminance values to the color spectrum
3. Blend with original image based on intensity setting
4. Optionally preserve details in shadows and highlights
All processing is done locally in your browser - no images are uploaded to any server, ensuring your privacy.
